BUTUAN CITY – A 14-year-old student is recovering from a bullet wound he sustained while grappling for a gun with the security guard of an elementary school in Lantapan town, Bukidnon province recently.
“The 14-year-old boy was immediately rushed to Bukidnon Provincial Hospital for medical treatment of his injuries,” said Police Regional Office 10-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Joan G. Navarro on Monday, Aug. 25.
Police said that the student entered a classroom of the Alanib Elementary School and allegedly took a welding machine and grinder.
“While the student was exiting the classroom, he was caught by the school watchman, which resulted in a grappling and physical confrontation,” police said.
The student allegedly drew a firearm from his waist which accidentally discharged and a bullet wounded the security guard in the waist, police said.
The 45-year-old security guard turned over the gun – a .38 caliber revolver – and ammunition to responding policemen.
“Investigation is still ongoing,” Navarro said.
