DAVAO CITY – Acting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II urged Filipinos to embody heroism in their daily lives as this city celebrated National Heroes Day at Quezon Park on Monday, Aug. 25.
Duterte reminded the public that the liberties enjoyed today were secured through the ultimate sacrifice of countless Filipinos, both those honored in history books and the unnamed men and women who fought for independence.
“The freedom we continue to cherish today, the sovereignty we breathe in every corner of our land, is a priceless treasure paid for with the lives of our heroes,” said Duterte.
Duterte said that heroism extends beyond the battlefield, citing mothers who raised patriots, families who endured loss, and ordinary citizens who contributed to nation-building.
He added that the spirit of heroism remains vital in present-day struggles—in classrooms where teachers mold the youth, in hospitals where health workers save lives, in farms that feed the country, and in homes where love of country is instilled.
“To our youth, let us honor the memory of our heroes not only with words, but with deeds,” he said. “Let us uphold the rule of law, choose unity over division, and strive to be everyday heroes in the simple yet noble ways we can.”
Duterte urged Filipinos to carry forward the values of courage, integrity, and hope. “By living out the values of our heroes, we are building a Philippines worthy of their sacrifices—a stronger, more united, and more resilient nation for the generations to come,” he said.
