President Marcos hailed modern-day heroes as the country commemorated National Heroes’ Day, stressing that nation-building is a “constant and unrelenting endeavor” that calls for the service of every generation.

In his message for the occasion, the President underscored that new heroes continue to emerge in every period of history.

“Among the enduring truths to be drawn from their stories is that nation-building is a constant and unrelenting endeavor, and that heroes and heroines are needed throughout the life of a country,” he said.

Marcos said modern-day heroes are found in everyday life, citing farmers, fisherfolk, workers, teachers, soldiers, law enforcers, scientists, and “countless ordinary men and women who, in extraordinary ways, fulfill their duties.”

He expressed “deepest gratitude and highest regard” to those who continue to serve the country in their respective fields.

“As we continue on our journey of nationhood, let us emulate their examples by manifesting our patriotism through acts of genuine service to our people,” he said.

President Marcos said heroism today may be expressed through simple but meaningful acts of compassion to one another.

Meanwhile, the President likewise honored the lives of exemplary Filipinos who selflessly offered themselves for the nation.

“Guided by conviction that arises from a deep love for country, they ventured into the fires of struggle through which their heroic legacy and the destiny of our nation were forged,” he said.

The President described the sacrifices of heroes as the act “through which the soul affirms its highest calling and the nation discovers its moral shape.”

National Heroes’ Day, observed every last Monday of August, honors both known and unknown Filipinos who fought for the country’s freedom from Spanish colonization and other struggles that followed.
