A fisherman who went missing in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) was found safe on Monday, Aug. 25, after drifting at sea for three days, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed.
The PCG identified the fisherman as Roberto Albior, 53, a resident of Brgy. Calapandayan, Subic, Zambales.
According to the PCG, Albior was separated from his 12 companions during a fishing expedition southeast of Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough or Panatag Shoal) on Aug. 22 due to Tropical Storm “Isang”.
Onboard the fishing boat “FFB Saider”, Albior endured the strong winds and large waves, clinging to his boat for survival.
Albior’s companions sought help from the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zambales. After the fishermen were assisted back to Subic, the CGS Zambales deployed BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) to conduct search and rescue operations.
After three days of search, a fishing boat reported to CGS Zambales via radio communication that Albior has been found.
BRP Cape San Agustin proceeded to the area where Albior was reported to have been seen and the coast guard personnel eventually confirmed his location.
Albior was immediately provided medical assistance and food before he was transported back to Subic.
The PCG reminded fisherfolk to regularly check the seaworthiness of their vessels and monitor weather advisories before setting out to sea.
