LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - The Philippine National Police (PNP)-Bicol’s strict enforcement of the five-minute response policy once again proved effective after officers swiftly apprehended a stabbing suspect and saved the life of the victim in Naga City, in Camarines Sur province on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24.
Police Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-5 spokesperson, said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. in front of an eatery in Barangay Triangulo.
The victim, Mark, 27, was suddenly attacked and stabbed in the right chest and left arm by the suspect, Arnulfo, 44.
Responding within minutes after receiving the distress call, the Naga City Police Office immediately arrested the suspect and rushed the victim to Bicol
Medical Center (BMC) in Naga City.
Follow-up investigation revealed that the motive behind the crime was revenge.
Police said the suspect attacked the victim after he allegedly assaulted the suspect’s sibling a day prior to the stabbing.
PNP-Bicol regional director Police Brig. Gen. Nestor C. Babagay credited the successful operation to the five-minute response strategy strictly implemented across the region.
“The quick arrest of the suspect and the immediate transport of the victim to the hospital clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our five-minute response time. This is not just a policy but a concrete fulfillment of our sworn duty to protect and serve the people. Sa Bagong Pilipinas, ang gusto ng pulis, ligtas ka,” the Naga City Police Office said in a statement.
Authorities urged the public to continue cooperating with the police by reporting crimes or suspicious activities immediately to help further improve response times and maintain peace and order in the community.
