300 families flee flash flood caused by collapsed subdivision fence

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 300 families evacuated after a subdivision perimeter fence collapsed due to flash flood at the height of heavy rains here on Monday, Aug. 25.
Floodwaters surged into Ayudahan Drive of the Ayudahan Homeowners Association and a portion of the Kalayaan Village in Barangay Tumaga.
Residents of Ayudahan Homeowners Association reportedly just rushed out of their homes to escape rampaging floodwaters.
A viral video entitled “Help” showed one of the houses inside Filinvest direly affected by the flooding with furniture and appliances floating in murky hip deep waters inside the house.
The Zamboanga City government, particularly the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and other concerned agencies, deployed emergency rescue teams to the area.
Government rescue personnel assisted in evacuating affected families who have received the necessary assistance from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Mayor Khymer Olaso led response and rescue efforts amid growing calls for investors to adhere to strict standards to avoid possible mishaps due to the emerging dangers of climate change.
