CEBU CITY – Considered as a reflection of an effective local governance and private sector collaboration, the province of Siquijor achieved a dramatic rise in the Department of Trade Industry's (DTI) 2024 national competitive index.
The provincial government on Saturday, Aug. 23, announced that it has achieved the distinction of being the top province in the Visayas in the DTI Competitiveness Index, ranking 24th among 82 provinces nationwide.
Siquijor ranked just 60th in 2022 and 38th in 2023.
The province's big leap from the previous rankings underscores the sustained efforts of local leadership, according to Gov. Jake Villa, who leads the island-province along with his father, Siquijor lone district Rep. Jecoy Villa.
By recording the dramatic rise, Siquijor earned the distinction being named as the No. 1 province in the Visayas in terms of competitiveness in the 2024 ranking.
Rizal province secured the No. 1 spot in the entire Philippines.
The governor explained they ushered in infrastructure and other initiatives to bolster the province's economy and provide a business-friendly environment that attracts investment, creates jobs, and boosts local economy.
"Our ascent to the top of the Visayas and 24th nationwide confirms that good governance pays off. We will build on this momentum to sustain inclusive growth for all Siquijodnons. With this achievement, we reaffirm our commitment to every family, every small business, and every worker who help shape Siquijor’s future," said Gov. Villa.
Rep. Villa said: "Garbo kaayo namo'ng mga Siquijodnon nga mahimong numero uno sa entire Visayas in terms of competetiveness. Himuon ni namong inspirasyon nga mas magkugi pa gyud para masulbad nato ang atong mga problema, ug maka deliver pa mi ug mas daghan pang proyekto (It is an honor for us Siquijodnon to become No. 1 in entire Visayas in terms of competitiveness. We will make this an inspiration to work harder so we can solve problems and deliver more projects)."
The 2024 rankings of other Visayas provinces were: Leyte 36th, Guimaras 39th, Capiz 40th, Bohol 42nd, Aklan 48th, Cebu 49th, Iloilo 50th, Southern Leyte 55th, Northern Samar 56th, Negros Occidental 61st, Eastern Samar 67th, Biliran 68th, Antique 72nd, and Negros Oriental, 76th.
