Manila records over 550 leptospirosis and dengue cases, 31 deaths

The Manila Health Department has recorded a total of 310 leptospirosis cases and 247 dengue cases across six city district hospitals as of August 22, prompting renewed calls for public vigilance during the rainy season.
According to official data, 29 deaths have been attributed to leptospirosis, while two deaths were reported due to dengue infections.
The figures reflect cumulative totals from July 1, 2025.
The Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center reported the highest number of leptospirosis cases at 114, with 14 deaths and four currently admitted.
-Sta. Ana Hospital followed with 49 cases, 10 deaths, and 6 patients still under treatment
-Ospital ng Tondo had 38 confirmed cases, 5 deaths, and 1 patient still admitted
Other reporting hospitals include:
-Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center: 23 cases, 4 deaths, 3 admitted
-Ospital ng Sampaloc: 35 cases, 1 death
-Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital: 1 case, currently admitted
-Out of the 310 total cases, 260 have been confirmed, and 15 patients remain admitted as of this report.
Dengue Breakdown:
The Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center also leads with 98 dengue cases, although no deaths have been recorded. Five patients are currently admitted.
-Ospital ng Sampaloc followed with 60 cases, no deaths, and 3 ongoing admissions.
-Sta. Ana Hospital recorded 29 cases, 1 death, and 8 current patients
-Ospital ng Tondo reported 23 cases, with 1 death and 2 patients still in treatment
-Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center listed 10 cases, no deaths, and 7 patients admitted
-Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital has not reported any confirmed dengue cases
-Out of the 247 total dengue cases, 220 have been confirmed, and 25 patients remain under hospital care.
The Manila Health Department continues to remind residents to avoid contact with floodwaters, use protective gear, and seek immediate medical attention at any city health center or district hospital if symptoms of leptospirosis or dengue occur.
Preventive measures like free Doxycycline distribution are ongoing, and the city urges all exposed individuals to visit their nearest health center for prophylaxis and check-ups.
