The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the driver’s license of its employee who was driving a service vehicle of the agency when it plunged into a swamp in Zamboanga Sibugay.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said they have already issued a show cause order to its employee, who is assigned to the Human Resources and Management Office of the agency’s regional office in Zamboanga.
“This is proof that we neither condone nor tolerate traffic regulations violations within our ranks. As a member of the LTO family, it is our obligation to be the model of road safety and responsible driving,” said Mendoza.
Based on the initial investigation, the LTO official was driving a pick-up truck from Pagadian City to Zamboanga City when he suddenly sped off. This resulted in the car plunging into a swamp and the video.
Three other LTO employees were reported inside the car when the incident happened.
Mendoza said the driver is facing reckless driving and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, which has a penalty of revocation of driver’s license.
Depending on the outcome of the probe, the LTO official may also face administrative charges.
Mendoza said the LTO official was tasked to join a hearing via Zoom as part of the due process and as an opportunity for him to explain his side.
