The couple has been arrested but the case took another twist when Dumanjug Mayor Gungun Gica became a subject of an investigation by the Commission on Human Rights-Central Visayas (CHR-7).
CHR-7 Regional Director Arvin Odron on Saturday, Aug. 23, confirmed that Gica will be investigated after a video circulated online showing him slapping and punching the male suspect.
The confrontation happened in Gica's home where the couple admitted sexually abusing their three-year-old child and some minors in the neighborhood.
The woman also admitted that she went naked during a videocall with foreign clients. She admitted receiving P15,000 to P20,000 for every lewd online performance.
Gica said he first received a report about the alleged abuse from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) on Monday, Aug. 18.
The illegal act was uncovered when an 11-year-old child, accompanied by her grandmother, reported to authorities that the woman who happens to be her aunt had asked her to strip off her clothes during video calls with foreign clients in exchange for money.
Gica immediately instructed police to act on the report that led to the couple's arrest.
On Aug. 19, the couple was asked to go to Gica's house where the furious mayor assaulted the man.
Gica admitted that the man is his relative. He added that his frustration grew when the man initially denied the allegations against them.
The next day, Gica was informed that there were more minors who fell prey to the couple's cyberporn activities.
Following the incident, Gica assured that measures will be taken to help protect children against online sexual exploitation.
