Progress on the 1,340-meter Bucana Bridge in Davao City has advanced further, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Saturday, Aug. 23, that the project is 94 percent complete and on track for opening before the year ends.
DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said the bridge superstructure is fully finished, with only minor works remaining.
These include the installation of traffic barriers and pedestrian railings, painting of the 19.5-meter-high pylons (first coat applied), and final preparations for deck waterproofing and asphalt overlay.
Work on approach roads also continues, covering drainage, fencing, and guardrail installation.
Implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office–Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC) with China Road and Bridge Corporation as contractor, the Bucana Bridge forms part of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road.
The four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge spans 480 meters, supported by 860 meters of approach roads now under construction.
Once completed, it will connect the eastern and western coastal areas of Davao City across the Davao River, offering a faster and safer alternative to congested downtown routes.
Funded under a ₱3.126-billion China Aid Grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the China Aid Localized Project for the Davao River Bridge stands as a milestone in bilateral cooperation, Sadain noted.
Aligned with the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” vision, the Bucana Bridge is expected to spur regional development, ease traffic congestion, and improve mobility for communities in Davao City.
On Aug. 22, Sadain inspected the bridge together with UPMO-BMC Project Director Rodrigo I. Delos Reyes, Roads Management Cluster I Project Director Benjamin A. Bautista, and other DPWH officials.
