ILOILO CITY—For a class of Grade 9 students in central Iloilo province, an exam day ended with a feast.
Students belonging to the Grade 9-Blueberry section of the Calinog National Comprehensive High School in Calinog town were able to bond and lighten up the mood after a long and tiring day of examinations last Wednesday, Aug. 20.
STUDENTS of Grade 9 Blueberry of the Calinog National Comprehensive High School celebrate with a small feast after an examination last Aug. 20.
The students stayed and were able to partake of spaghetti, bread, and cake.
It was the idea of class adviser Jessie S. Comprendio to feed the children after the exams as a form of replenishing lost energy from several hours of exams.
“They were motivated to answer and finish the exams when they knew there would be a treat,” said Comprendio.
The teacher pitched in his own personal money while some parents and other kind-hearted people donated for the small feast.
Comprendio is no stranger to his thoughtful and creative ways to engage his students in the past 20 years.
During the pandemic, Comprendio’s action became viral when he plastered life-size photos of his Grade 9 students on classroom chairs during the opening of school year 2021-2022.
At that time, face-to-face classes were suspended. But Comprendio wanted his students at that time to feel welcome even though they are inside the classroom physically.
Over the years, Comprendio has been recognized for his efforts. He was the grand winner of Heroes of Learning 2021 by nonprofit Tagpros Children and Power Mac Center Inc.
