Mayor Isko, MPD urge motorists to blow their horns during car robberies
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso presents the two suspects behind the viral car robbery on Road 10, Tondo, Manila.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and the Manila Police District (MPD) urged motorists, especially truckers, to work together to prevent car robberies following the apprehension of two men who were caught stealing cargo from a moving truck on Road 10 (R-10) in Tondo, Manila.
In a media briefing on Thursday, Aug. 21, Domagoso and MPD Station 1 commander Lt. Col. Ronald De Leon presented the two suspects in the robbery that became viral on social media.
The suspects were identified as alias Eusebio and alias Marc. They were caught engaging in illegal gambling before being arrested by the police at Aroma Compound in Barangay 105, Tondo, Manila on Aug. 20.
"Kapag may nakita (magnanakaw), magbusina kayo sabay-sabay to call the attention of everyone (When you see someone climbing over other vehicles to steal, sound your horn together to call the attention of everyone)," Domagoso said, adding that victims should not be afraid to file formal complaints against the suspects.
"Wag kayong matakot. Mag file kayo ng complaint. Habang nandidito ako sa lungsod ng Maynila, we will not stop apprehending these people. Baka naman kung pupuwede, bigyan nyo din ng oras yung effort ng pulis apprehending these individuals na kayo ay humarap upang maging complainant, tutal kayo din naman ay biktima (Don't be afraid. File a complaint. While I'm here in the city of Manila, we will not stop apprehending these people. Maybe if possible, give time to the police for their effort in apprehending these individuals. Please come forward to become a complainant, after all, you are also a victim)," the mayor explained.
For his part, De Leon also urged the motorist being robbed to turn on the vehicle's hazard lights for it to be spotted quickly by responding policemen.
