Flooding disrupts training at GAP center

Training sessions for the national gymnastics team were disrupted on Friday, Aug. 22, after their facility in Intramuros, Manila, was flooded due to heavy rainfall.
In a video posted by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) on social media, athletes and staff were seen working together to clear the water from the flooded training center. Another clip showed gymnasts resting beside damp mats and soaked equipment.
GAP said training eventually resumed after cleanup efforts.
“The heavy rains caused flooding inside the GAP Intramuros training center, but with the help of the athletes and volunteer parents from the GAP development team, we were able to dry the place quickly, and training soon resumed,” the post read.
PH gymnasts are currently deep in preparations for upcoming international competitions, particularly the 2025 Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which the country is hosting in November, and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
Unfortunately, it has long been a recurring challenge for athletes training in Manila, where many areas are prone to flooding during torrential rains.
