Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua has advised Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso to "move on" following the latter's latest tirade on him in connection with alleged illegal demolition and construction of facilities in the capital city.
"Tapos na po ang election, dapat mag-move on na po tayo (The elections are over, we must be able to move on)," Chua told House reporters in a virtual press conference Friday, Aug.22.
Earlier, an incensed Domagoso called out his former Aksyon Demokratiko party-mate Chua for allegedly not having the proper permits for both demolition of structures on Alvarez Street corner Avenida in Barangay 334., Manila and the subsequent construction works.
Chua, now a member of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) said the projects include a community center with dialysis facilities, and a halfway house. However, he neither denied nor confirmed if he indeed secured permits from the city hall.
"Ito pong proyektong to nagsimula po nung 2020 pa. Hindi pa po ako ang congressman noon. At that time, ang congressman po dito ay si dating vice mayor, vice mayor Yul Servo, kung saan mayroon din pong proyekto na itutuloy dyan. Kaya lang ito po ay foundation lamang, hindi po naituloy dahil nagkulang po ng pondo," he said.
(This project began back in 2020. I was not yet the congressman at that time. The congressman then was former vice mayor Yul Servo, who also had a project planned for that area. However, it was only the foundation that was built, and it was not continued due to lack of funds.)
"At that time mayor po siya (Domagoso) at pinayagan po niya. So hindi ko po alam na kung bakit ngayon ay sinasabi niyang iligal ito (At that time, Domagoso was the mayor and he approved it. So I don’t understand why he is now saying that it’s illegal)," noted Chua.
At the very least, Chua said the Manila mayor was barking at the wrong tree.
"Ito po dapat ang tinatahulan niya ay ang DPWH at hindi po kami. Wala na po sa kamay namin (What he should be barking at is the DPWH, not us. It’s no longer in our hands)," the Manila congressman said, adding that solons can only request for projects based on requests from their constituents.
PR stunt
"Ang nakikita ko po dito ay PR (public relations) stunt (What I see is a public relations stunt)," he said.
Chua had more choice words for Domagoso as the interview went on. Suffice it to say the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability chairman failed to hide his disdain for Domagoso, who was elected as Manila mayor again in the May 2025 polls.
"Wala ata siyang malagay sa vlog content niya eh (Maybe he is running short on vlog content)," he said of the social media savvy mayor.
"Daldal pa nang daldal to eh tapos na ang palabas. Akala po niya siguro ay nasa pelikula pa siya (He keeps on yapping even if the show is over. Perhaps he thinks he's still in a movie)," Chua added in an obvious dig at Domagoso's past as a movie star.
Chua also accused Domagoso of singling him out when it comes to criticisms.
"Ang pinagtataka ko yung mga ginaganyan niya, yung distrito ko lang at yung distrito ng 2nd district. Lahat ng ginagawa po namin, lahat ay hinaharang niya (What puzzles me is that he targets only my district and the 2nd district. Everything we do, he blocks all of it)," he said.
"Dinedeprive po niya ang distrito ko ng proyekto na makabuluhan. Bakit siya selective? (He is depriving my district of meaningful projects. Why is he being selective?)" added the House leader.
