Afternoon classes suspended in Manila as heavy rains cause flooding

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso ordered the suspension of afternoon classes in the city on Friday, Aug. 22, based on the recommendation of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) due to inclement weather and flooding in the city.
The mayor ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the city starting at 12 p.m. and advised all schools to shift to ADM or Alternative Delivery Mode.
Gutter-deep floods greeted motorists and commuters in the city on Friday morning due to the heavy and continuous rains caused by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and a nearby low pressure area (LPA).
The city government reported flooding in the following areas as of 9:25 a.m.:
- Leveriza corner Quirino Ave - Gutter deep
- Taft Ave. Quirino - Quirino Ave - Gutter deep
- In front of Ospital Ng Maynila - Half tire deep
- Taft Ave. corner Nakpil St - Gutter deep
- In front of PCU - Gutter deep
- Pedro Gil corner taft Ave. - Gutter deep
- Pedro Gil in front of PGH - Gutter deep
- Taft Ave in front of Manila Science High School - Gutter deep
- Padre Faura St. corner Taft Ave - Gutter deep
- Taft Ave Ermita - Gutter deep
- Taft Avenue in front of NBI - Gutter deep
- Kalaw corner Taft Ave. - Knee deep
- Finance Road - Gutter deep
- Ayala Blvd. corner Taft Ave - Knee deep
