The Wushu Arena Philippines turned heads after collecting 14 gold medals in several categories of the 2025 Emei Cup: Chengdu International Wushu Championships in Sichuan province in China recently.
With mentor Arra Jeuneze Corpuz at the helm, the six-athlete squad also bagged five silvers and two bronzes in 21 events in both modern and traditional wushu.
Luyi Corpuz, the Future Star Award winner, led the country’s gold-medal haul with four after ruling the Infant Division’s ChangQuan1 (Barehand 1), ChangQuan2 (Barehand 2), Tajiquan 24 (Taichi 24), and Shuang Bishou (Double Daggers).
Coach Corpuz took four medals, with three golds in Taijishan (Pair Taichi Fan) with Carl Ramirez, Shuang Yue (Deer Horns), and Taijijian 32 (Taichi sword), while settling for a silver in Wudang Fuchen (Horse Hair) of the Youth Division.
Corpuz was also selected as the meet’s Excellent Coach.
In the Youth class, Shaina Liwanag bagged three golds after ruling the Changquan 3 (Barehand 3), Baguazhang (Traditional Barehand), and Jianshu (Straight Sword). She won silver in Gong Fu Shan (Metal Fan).
Junior A’s Carl, for his part, plucked two golds in Taijishan and Taijiquan 24 (Taichi 24) before securing a silver in Taijijian 32 (Taichi sword).
In Junior B, Bede Ramirez copped a gold, silver, and bronze in the ChangQuan2 (Barehand 2), Shuang Bishou (Double Daggers), and ChangQuan1 (Barehand 1), respectively.
Meanwhile, Charles Ramirez had three medals in the Masters Division where he copped a gold in ChangQuan2 (Barehand 2), a silver in Shuang Jie gun (Single nunchucks, and a bronze in Taijiquan 24 (Taichi 24).
The group just replicated its fruitful campaign in the 20th Hong Kong International Wushu Championships last March where it took home 45 medals.
