Police said a 12-year-old girl was killed in a suspected grenade explosion in Barangay Labangal, General Santos City, on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Angel Malid.
Investigation said the victim’s family heard an explosion in their backyard and saw the victim in a hammock. Malid sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.
The victim was last seen with a can walking towards the hammock.
Police said the can might have contained a grenade improperly disposed of by the owner and exploded when she handled the container.
A land dispute was reported and a rifle grenade was discovered in the area recently.
The victim was reportedly an out-of-school youth and helped her parents earn money by collecting recyclable materials.
Meanwhile, a couple was found dead in Barangay Astorga, Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur before dawn on Wednesday.
The victims were a 60-year-old woman and her 58-year-old husband.
Police said the woman was found bloodied in their hut. Her husband was discovered in grassy area nearby.
No valuables were reported missing from their house and all their domestic animals were accounted for.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation on both cases.
