Mom, daughter killed in Zamboanga City landslide

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A mother and her daughter were killed in a landslide during a heavy downpour in Sitio Wani, Lower Sibulao, this city, Tuesday, Aug. 19.

The fatalities were identified as Carmelita, 40, and daughter Karen.
Erwin, 46, a laborer and Carmelita’s partner, said that they were preparing to sleep when the landslide struck their house.
Carmelita and Karen were buried and their bodies found three hours later by neighbors.
Their house was located at the base of a hill, an area prone and vulnerable to soil erosion and landslides.
Their bodies were transported to the Vitali Lying-In Center for post-mortem examination then brought to a funeral parlor.
