Mayor Isko orders confiscation of heavy machineries used in unauthorized city project
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso could not hide his dismay following his discovery of an alleged unauthorized construction project being done on a vacant lot owned by the city government and immediately ordered the confiscation of the machineries being used there.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso orders the confiscation of the heavy machineries and other equipment being used in an unauthorized construction project on a city-owned lot in Barangay 334.
During his inspection tour on Thursday, Aug. 21, Domagoso found the unauthorized construction project on Alvarez Street corner Avenida in Barangay 334.
He said the vacant lot used to be a covered court and satellite offices under the supervision of the city's Public Recreations Bureau. However, it was illegally demolished to give way to a project by Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua.
Domagoso and City Engineer Armand Andres explained that the demolition and proposed construction on the lot does not have any permit or authorization from the city government.
The project also affected several facilities of the barangay including its Senior Citizen's Office, barangay hall extension, and day care center.
"Lahat 'to (machineries and construction equipment) kumpiskahin yan. Walang permiso yang mga yan. Property ito ng city (Confiscate all these machineries and construction equipment. They have no permission nor authorization from the city government. This lot is a property of the city)," the mayor said.
"Unang una walang permiso sa amin ito. Sabihin nyo kay Congressman Chua nasan ang permiso nito. Unang una, property ng Maynila yan. Ginamit ko pa yan nung pandemic eh. Diyan ko nilagay yung mga pulubi sa kalye noong pandemya (First of all, this construction project does not have any permission from us in the city government. Tell that to Congressman Chua and ask him for the project's authorization. First of all, this is Manila's property. I even used it during the pandemic. It was where I placed the city's beggars during the pandemic)," he stressed.
Domagoso said he and the city government will continue to investigate the matter.
