LSGH implements 4-point strategy to ease Ortigas Avenue traffic congestion

The La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) has implemented traffic decongestion strategies along Ortigas Avenue amid concerns raised by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) over the heavy traffic congestion near the school premises especially during morning and afternoon rush hours.
In a letter addressed to MMDA chairman Don Artes, LSGH president Edmundo L. Fernandez said a four-point strategy is already in place to help ease traffic buildup during student drop-off and pick-up hours in school premises part of Ortigas Avenue.
“La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) acknowledges the traffic challenges along its portion of Ortigas Avenue, particularly during student drop-off and pick-up hours. We wish to assure our community and the public that the school is actively collaborating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to address concerns regarding public safety and the orderly flow of traffic,” the letter read.
This was in response to the letter by Artes urging the LSGH to implement stricter internal traffic management measures amid the rising number of No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) violators near the school’s premises—938 violations from July 18 to Aug. 14.
Most of the violations are illegal parking, obstruction and unauthorized loading/unloading during peak school hours.
The 4-point strategy
In the letter, Fernandez said the traffic mitigating measures have been in effect since the opening of the school year.
The measures include modified traffic routes within the campus and Greenhills East Village to improve efficiency and minimize vehicle buildup along Ortigas Avenue under its Traffic Flow Adjustments scheme.
He said the LSGH partnered with the Greenhills East Village Association (GEVA) to allow access within the village and maximize the use of our school gates.
Fernandez said the school also provided additional drop-off and pick-up spaces, including the football field to accommodate fetchers and guests within the campus
Third, he said class schedules across all grade levels have been staggered to manage dismissal times, including online classes once a week for Senior High School students top reduce traffic volume.
Fernande also informed the MMDA that LSGH has increased the number of accredited school buses and encouraged parents to participate in the carpooling scheme.
“In addition, LSGH is exploring point-to-point transport services for students and personnel,” he said.
Support and cooperation
Artes' letter also asked the LSGH to coordinate with the MMDA to discuss joint traffic management strategies not only to address traffic congestion but also ensure the safety of all road users in the area.
Fernandez, for his part, said the LSGH is constantly reminding motorists going to LSGH to strictly observe the traffic regulations set by the MMDA.
“We support the MMDA’s No Contact Apprehension Policy enforced along Ortigas Avenue and trust that it will be implemented properly,” the letter read.
“Together with the MMDA, and with the cooperation of parents, guardians, and stakeholders, LSGH remains steadfast in its commitment to implementing sustainable solutions that improve traffic flow while ensuring the safety and well-being of our students,” it added.
