Gun-for-hire killed in clash

CALAUAG, Quezon – An alleged gun-for hire and drug pusher was killed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sumilang here on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21.

Quezon police director Police Col. Romulo Albacea identified the suspect as Kenneth de Guzman Buñales.

A hitman and his companion were killed in a gunbattle with lawmen in Quezon on Thursday.

Buñales’ companion was also killed in the encounter. He remains unidentified as of posting time.

Albacea said that Buñales was allegedly involved in a series of shooting incidents in Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, and Lucena City in Quezon province and believed to be a member of a gun-for-hire group.

The suspects sensed the presence of lawmen and fired at the poseur-buyer. The suspects boarded a multipurpose vehicle toward Tagkawayan, Quezon.

Pursuing lawmen asked the Calauag police to establish checkpoint.

The suspects fired at lawmen manning the checkpoint. Police returned fire and killed the suspects.

Police reported no injuries and casualties. Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
