Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV on Thursday, August 21 called on Filipinos to unite and pursue the vision of the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., for good governance as corruption controversies continue to hound the country.
Aquino made the call during the wreath-laying ceremony commemorating the former senator’s 42nd death anniversary at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.
“That’s what he fought for, good governance and social equality which we know we haven’t achieved. Now, we are in that situation again,” Aquino said.
Aquino was referring to the controversies on alleged questionable flood control projects which was the subject of the Senate Blue Ribbon’s recent investigation.
“It’s very important that the people are participating here and aspiring something good for the nation for everyone,” he said.
Moreover, Aquino emphasized that the reforms Filipinos aspire for cannot be accomplished by a single person, but only through unity and collective effort.
“We need to be united here. We need to unite,” he said.
The Senator also urged Filipinos not to forget his uncle’s legacy and sacrifice, which helped restore democracy in the country.
“That was his aspiration that there be changes in politics, at least now we see democracy at work,” he said.
