American registered sex offender arrested in Manila -- BI
An American registered sex offender (RSO) has been arrested in Manila by the Bureau of Immigration’s fugitive search unit (BI-FSU).
In a statement, the BI identified him as James Russel Munson.
BI-FSU Chief Rendel Ryan Sy that Munson has been tagged as RSO for having been convicted of first-degree violation of a minor based on the reports of the Philippine Center for International Crime and US authorities.
In many parts of the United States, an RSO is an individual convicted of a sexual offense and required to register with the state or local designated agency.
On Munson’s arrest, Sy credited the BI's Project #ShieldKids, an intensified campaign against sexual predators and other foreign nationals whose presence poses risk to public security and safety, especially to the welfare of the children.
Munson is now detained at the BI’s facility pending his deportation and blacklisting as an undesirable alien.
