Manila 2nd district Rep. Rolando Valeriano believes that Leyte 4th district Rep. Richard Gomez's scathing Facebook post was indeed a reference to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
Valeriano gave this opinion on Wednesday, Aug. 20, despite admitting that he didn't read his colleague Gomez's post the days before.
But that doesn't mean that the quad-comm version 2.0 version co-chairman can't put two and two together.
“Tama naman. Nakikiisa ako doon sa statement ni Cong. Richard Gomez (That's only right. I support Cong. Richard Gomez's statement),” Valeriano told reporters in an ambush interview.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Aug. 19, Gomez wrote: "Why is this city mayor making so much noise? It doesn’t surprise me anymore that this so-called 'clean' mayor is throwing accusations of corruption at us congressmen...Maybe it’s time to fix your own house first before pointing fingers at others. Mahiya ka naman (Have shame)."
Asked if he thought this was a shot at Magalong, Valeriano said: "Hindi ko nabasa, pero siguro si Mayor Magalong ang very vocal naman kasi dun (I didn't read the post, but it's probably Mayor Magalong because he's very vocal).”
While Gomez did not name anybody in his post, Magalong has in recent months publicly accused several lawmakers of corruption in flood control projects as well as in the distribution of financial aid.
Magalong has alleged that some infrastructure funds are cornered by syndicates through favored contractors and that legislators benefit from such schemes.
House of Representatives members have consistently and strongly rejected these claims.
