UP recruit Israel Friday passes away

Israel Osamudiame Friday, a newly recruited big man of University of the Philippines, passed away after he collapsed during its team practice Tuesday, Aug. 19. He was 19.

Israel Osamudiame Friday, a newly recruited big man of University of the Philippines, passed away after he collapsed during its team practice Tuesday, Aug. 19. He was 19.

This was confirmed by UP’s Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD), but the cause of death of the 6-foot-10 big man, who is supposedly turning 20 next month, is still undetermined.

According to OASD, Friday was immediately taken to the nearby hospital where he eventually died despite the efforts of the medical staff.

The Abuja, Nigeria native previously suited up for Centro Escolar University in UCAL before he brought his talent to the Diliman-based squad.

He was one of the dominant forces in the said league after leading the Scorpions in many departments.

The school is currently in talks with Friday’s loved ones, lending its support and asking for privacy for the family.
