CEBU CITY – A ship captain and six other workers of a shipping company were arrested for allegedly stealing crude oil in Talisay City, Cebu.
Apprehended were the 67-year-old skipper, a certain Leo from Iloilo City, the 57-year-old chief mate, the 59-year-old chief engineer, the 46-year-old third engineer, two oilers aged 32 and 24, and a 35-year-old third mate.
They were caught after shipping company Keywest Shipping Corp. sought the help of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas (CIDG-7).
The shipping company complained of losses due to high consumption of fuel.
The company lamented that the rapid fuel consumption of its vessels was unusual that affected its operations.
The company started suspecting that some personnel may be involved in irregular activities.
Acting on the complaint, CIDG-7 operatives went to the shipyard where they caught the seven workers allegedly unloading crude fuel from the ship.
The seven arrested persons were brought to the CIDG-7 headquarters pending the filing of theft charges against them.
