In a Facebook live broadcast, Alvin Sarzate clarified that the misunderstanding among some members of their circle stemmed from political disagreements, not food.
“It’s too shallow if that would be the reason,” Sarzate said, addressing the trending narrative that the supposed conflict was caused by the Filipino braised pork dish.
“Can you imagine the headline? Because of humba, the Diehard Duterte Supporters fought? It’s a very cheap story to say that we argued over food,” he added, stressing that the issue was purely political.
The viral humba angle gained traction online but Sarzate insisted it was a misleading portrayal of what really happened.
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque echoed Sarzate.
During a Facebook live stream by Cecil Arceño, tensions escalated after a woman claimed that an individual identified as “Aldo” wrote disparaging comments about their group.
Roque immediately reacted, calling on those in attendance to respond. He emphasized that some things are right and some are wrong, and appealed to the supporters to take a stand against wrong.
He became more upset after seeing a social media post that mocked him for eating humba. He offered to pay for the dish but was told it was already covered by a friend of the host.
Tensions escalated further when Roque accused some guests of blindly supporting Aldo and urged them to speak up against what was wrong. He also argued with the celebrant, saying he felt disrespected.
