Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso met with vendors from Divisoria and the University Belt (U-Belt) on Wednesday, August 20, to discuss livelihood concerns and plans to establish another Ugbo food lane in Sampaloc.
The meeting, held at Manila City Hall, aimed to address issues related to space allocation, clearing operations, and the expected increase in foot traffic during the holiday season.
Domagoso assured the vendors that the city government recognizes their right to earn a living, provided they observe cleanliness, discipline, and coordination with barangay officials.
The mayor said the city is open to expanding organized food lanes like the iconic Ugbo in Tondo.
He emphasized that any additional food lane in Sampaloc would be designed to help manage foot traffic while supporting vendor livelihoods.
Vendors appealed for continued access to their vending areas, particularly in busy zones.
The mayor reiterated the city's support, stressing that maintaining order and cleanliness remains a condition for continued operations.
City officials said they will continue to coordinate with barangay leaders and vendor groups to ensure that vending zones remain safe, clean, and accessible.
Vendor group leaders also expressed support for the city’s regulations and committed to cooperating with the future plans.
