J-metal group Babymetal earns Billboard top 10 album with 'Metal Forth'
J-metal group Babymetal reached a major career milestone with “Metal Forth” debuting at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, marking their first-ever US top 10 album.
This is the first time in history that an all-Japanese fronted group made the list. The project already amassed over 200 million global streams and sold 36,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
“Metal Forth” also debuted at No. 10 on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut US Chart and No. 2 on the US iTunes Download Album Chart.
In Japan, the album entered at No. 1 on the Oricon Rock Chart, No. 1 on the Digital Albums Chart, and No. 3 on the overall Oricon chart.
Internationally, “Metal Forth” landed in the top 10 in Germany, a career-best after charting at No. 24 with “The Other One” and No. 18 with “Metal Galaxy.” It also broke the top 20 in the UK and achieved career-high positions in the Netherlands and France.
“Thank you so much for your support on our new album ‘Metal Forth’ around the world! We hope you enjoy it! Our music & career are evolving globally, and we are moving forward with ‘Beyond Heavy Metal.’ Our journey continues, and we can’t wait to see you at Babymetal shows in your city and your country,” said Babymetal.
The release came just after the band completed their largest North American tour run to date, visiting major cities including New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Toronto and Chicago. This fall, they will have their largest US headline arena show to date taking place at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on Nov. 1.
