DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte, second district Rep. Omar Duterte, and acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II provided assistance on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to over 300 people affected by a fire in Barangays Leon Garcia and San Isidro in Agdao District here on Monday, Aug. 18.
The three officials provided food packs and other basic essentials, hot meals for seven days, and distributed safe drinking water.
The City Social Work and Development Office revealed that 22 households were affected in Leon Garcia, including 13 sharers, 23 renters, and five boarders.
In San Isidro, along with R. Castillo, around 65 households with 310 individuals, including 30 renters, were displaced.
The Dutertes underscored the need for an immediate and sustained response, ensuring that no family goes hungry and that they have access to clean water in these trying times.
They assured the public that their commitment extends beyond immediate relief, pledging to support fire-hit families not only through survival but also in rebuilding their homes and livelihoods.
"Rest assured we will continue working closely with the CSWDO and other agencies to provide further support for the families’ rehabilitation and recovery," they said.
Barangay Agdao Captain Rody Cagatin thanked the Dutertes for their prompt response.
Cagatin also thanked volunteers and private individuals who extended help.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao is investigating the cause of the fire. Damage to property was placed at P1.5 million.
The fire broke out at around 1:06 p.m. and over 70 houses covering about 1,000-square meters were destroyed. The fire reached second alarm before it was put out at 3:39 p.m. No injuries were reported.
