Construction firm rehabs damaged flood control project in Oriental Mindoro

Sunwest Inc. on Wednesday said it has started the rehabilitation of damaged portions of its flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
In a statement, the company said the restoration is being undertaken based on its standard warranty commitments.
The repairs started on Aug. 2 right after the heavy rains, went full blast on Aug. 11, and is eyed for completion by the end of the month.
Based on the firm's assessment, approximately five percent of the company's implemented flood control project in Oriental Mindoro sustained damage. Repairs are now in progress to ensure continued protection for communities vulnerable to seasonal flooding, it said.
“Sunwest is committed to ensuring that our projects remain reliable and resilient,” the company said. “The rehabilitation is being conducted in coordination with the DPWH.”
Sunwest holds a Quadruple A (AAAA) contractor accreditation since 2019, the highest classification granted by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board. It also has ISO certification since 2011 for quality and safety standards, and has been recognized by the Bureau of Internal Revenue as a Large Taxpayer, underscoring its financial stability and compliance record.
Founded in 1992, Sunwest said they have completed major flood-control, road, and bridge projects nationwide.
The firm stressed that its Mindoro dike project was built according to DPWH specifications, with the ongoing repairs serving as proof of its accountability.
