5.1-magnitude quake jolts Batangas on August 20; tremor also felt in Metro Manila — Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Batangas province at 12:43 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 2 kilometers southwest of Calaca City, Batangas, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Calaca City, while Intensity IV (moderately strong) was recorded in Alitagtag, and Cuenca in Batangas; and Tagaytay City in Cavite.
Intensity III (weak) shaking was recorded in Quezon City in Metro Manila; Santa Rosa City in Laguna; and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was registered in Makati City and Malabon City in Metro Manila; Hermosa in Bataan; Cainta in Rizal; and Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, it was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Biñan, City, Cabuyao City, and San Pedro City in Laguna; and Baco in Oriental Mindoro.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks due to this earthquake.
