A total of 49 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and two dependents from Saudi Arabia arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as part of the repatriation program of the national government.
The OFWs first stayed at the Bahay Kalinga shelters in Jeddah and Al Khobar after they suffered inhumane treatment from their respective employers.
The OFWs arrived in two batches on Tuesday, August 19--with 17 OFWs from Al Khobar via flight Qatar Airways QR932, and 32 more and two dependents from Jeddah via Saudia Airlines Flight SV870.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan welcomed the repatriates who all receive immediate financial assistance through the DMW AKSYON Fund and all the necessary support from OWWA, including temporary accommodation and transportation services back to their respective provinces.
The OFWs also received medical check-up from the MIAA Medical, and were referred to concerned government agencies for assistance for their productive and sustainable reintegration.
