The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday, August 19, announced that it has further strengthened its emergency and disaster response capabilities with the turnover of its 180th ambulance unit.
In a statement, PRC said the turnover, which took place on August 18, marks a “milestone” that highlights its continued commitment to providing timely medical assistance nationwide and underscores the value of its Safe Card Program.
Leading the ceremony were PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon and Secretary General Gwen Pang, joined by Elizabeth A. Chongco, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the PRC Valenzuela City Chapter, along with Dir. Ronald Chua, Dir. Julie Quiroga, and Bong Quiroga of JCI.
Fully equipped ambulance for advanced pre-hospital care
The newly added ambulance is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, including a defibrillator, mechanical ventilator, manual resuscitator, airway management kit, suction machine, OB kit, communication devices, portable oxygen tank, trauma kit, scoop stretcher and backboard, stair chair, and nebulizer.

These features ensure that each PRC ambulance functions as a mobile emergency room, capable of delivering advanced pre-hospital care during accidents, disasters, or medical emergencies.
Safe Card Program: Accessible and lifesaving support
For only P1,200 annually, PRC’s Safe Card Program provides members with one free ambulance service, one free bag of blood, accident coverage benefits, and the assurance of immediate assistance in critical situations.
PRC Chairman Gordon emphasized the connection between the new ambulance milestone and the program’s impact.
“Every new ambulance we add strengthens the promise we make to Safe Card members—that the Red Cross will always be ready to respond,” Gordon said. “With every Safe Card availed, members not only protect themselves but also help us expand our fleet and save more lives,” he added.
Continuing commitment to saving lives
With its expanding ambulance fleet, thousands of volunteers, and the support of Safe Card members and partners, PRC reaffirmed its mission of being “always first, always ready, and always there” for the Filipino people.
