Music icon RJ Jacinto celebrates his 80th birthday with a spectacular concert
For over six decades, Ramon “RJ” Jacinto has been one of the leading names in the local rock ‘n’ roll scene. With his musical gifts and stage presence, he has created a legacy that transcends generations—and he owes much of it to the people who have supported his journey.

To give thanks to them, RJ hosted a private concert last July 22, 2025, at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater in RCBC Plaza, Makati City. Despite the heavy downpour, guests were treated to a night of timeless music, heartfelt stories, and pure rock ‘n’ roll energy with the help of a few industry friends.
RJ performed his earliest hit, “Weightless,” an instrumental number he composed at just 15 years old, followed by “Trip to Manila” (1964), touted as the first English rock ‘n’ roll song in the Philippines. Sitti energized the crowd with Gloria Estefan’s “Conga,” while Jose Mari Chan joined RJ for a duet of the 1960s Italian love song “Legata ad Un Granello di Sabbia.” Zsa Zsa Padilla then belted out Chuck Berry’s “Back in the USA,” with RJ backing her up on guitar. Martin Nievera also performed two duets with RJ: “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog,” which had the audience on its feet.
The show built up to a soaring, high-energy finale when Arnel Pineda stepped on stage to deliver an unforgettable version of “Unchained Melody,” followed by “Summer of ’69,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy.
It was truly a fitting finale for a once-in-a-lifetime Philippine rock ‘n’ roll big band special. For a moment, it felt like New Year’s Eve on a stormy July night.
