Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay on Tuesday, Aug. 19, signed an ordinance that will provide immediate tax relief to residents and businesses affected by severe flooding from July 21 to 25.

City Ordinance No. 2025-A-001, enacted by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Monday, Aug. 11, waives penalties, surcharges, and interest on business taxes due July 21 while extending the five percent discount on third-quarter real property taxes for 2025.

The relief measures were designed to help residents and businesses recover from the devastating floods that displaced families and disrupted local commerce throughout the city, the local government explained.

"We recognize the tremendous hardships our constituents have endured. This comprehensive measure demonstrates our resolve to deliver swift, tangible relief that will help our community rebuild and recover," the mayor stated.

Qualified taxpayers may avail themselves of these benefits by settling their obligations from Aug. 26 to 29 and Sept. 1, 2025.

The ordinance ensures fairness to those who have already fulfilled their tax responsibilities before its effectiveness.

The local government stated that taxpayers who already paid penalties, surcharges, or interest on business taxes due July 21 can use these payments as credits on future taxes, pending verification by the City Treasurer. The same applies to those who paid third-quarter real property taxes but missed the five percent discount.

“All relief benefits will automatically apply to qualified taxpayers with no formal application required,” it said.
