Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday, August 19, led the rites, including a wreath-laying at the Quezon Memorial Shrine to mark the 147th birth anniversary of former President Manuel L. Quezon, after whom Quezon City was named.
Belmonte recalled Quezon’s words delivered at the Zamboanga Normal School, underscoring his call for honesty, justice, and moral courage.
“Ang kanyang mga salita ay paalala ng walang kapantay na tiwala ni Pangulong Quezon sa taumbayan (His words are a reminder of President Quezon's unparalleled trust in the people),” Belmonte said.
I share this not as a rebuke, but as a reminder that honor, justice, and truth are the foundation of a just society),”
The mayor also linked Quezon’s legacy to the observance of Buwan ng Kabataan also in August.
Like President Quezon, I believe that the future of our country is in the hands of the youth. May they embrace the responsibility of leading the transformation our society desires, cherish our culture and language, and together we will promote justice for all),” she added.
The ceremony was attended by Quezon City officials, government agencies, private sector representatives, members of Quezon’s family, and guest of honor Camilla Jean Zabala.
