Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso presents the suspects in the killing of two Japanese men in Malate, Manila to the media on Aug. 19.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno“ Domagoso presented the two suspects in the fatal shooting of two Japanese nationals in front of a hotel in Malate, Manila, on Aug. 15, following their arrest.
During a media briefing at the City Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 19, Domagoso identified the suspects as brothers Abel and Albert Manabat.
Abel served as the tour guide of the victims while Albert was identified as the shooter.
During police interrogation, the suspects claimed they were instructed by the alleged mastermind to kill the two victims for P9 million. The alleged mastermind is said to be known to the Japanese victims.
“Nalulungkot kami na meron pa ring sumusubok sa maynila (It's saddening to know that there are still people trying to commit crimes and other misdeeds here in Manila), but we guarantee you that no matter what happens, we will never rest until justice is served. I hope this combined effort of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Manila Police District, and all other men and women behind this investigation and your city government, can bring justice to the victims," Domagoso said.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said Abel was traced through multiple CCTV recordings in different areas, including the hotel, Adriatico Street, and Pasay City, helping investigators to track his movements following the incident.
Coordination with hotel administration led to a positive identification of the suspect via government-issued identification card.
Meanwhile, his brother Albert was seen frequenting key locations along Pedro Gil Street and was captured on camera removing his facemask, revealing his identity.
Both suspects are currently facing charges of murder and theft.
The MPD said investigation on the crime is still ongoing.
