Estero rangers conduct cleanup at Estero de Paco in Manila

The Estero Rangers from the Manila Department of Public Services (DPS) continued their cleanup operations along Estero de Paco, particularly in the Pedro Gil Street area, on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
The city government said it is just one of several creeks in the city that they are actively working to clean and maintain.
The ongoing effort aims to remove piles of garbage that block the natural flow of water and help prevent flooding and promote cleaner surroundings.
It is part of the city government's broader campaign to rehabilitate Manila’s waterways and ensure proper drainage across communities.
According to the DPS, the cleanup will be conducted regularly to ensure the estero remains clean and functional.
The local government called on residents to cooperate and help protect the environment.
“Pakiusap po, mga kapwa ko Batang Maynila, tulungan niyo din po kami sa paglilinis. Itapon po natin sa tamang tapunan ang ating mga basura (We appeal to our fellow Manileños to help us keep the surroundings clean. Let us all dispose of our waste properly),” urged the DPS.
Meanwhile, the city also conducted “Operation Linis” and opened four box culverts at Burgos corner Natividad Lopez Streets near the Manila City Hall.
The operation, led by personnel from the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), yielded 74 sacks of silt and garbage that had been clogging the drainage system. It also served as an urgent reminder to residents of the importance of proper waste disposal.
The local government continues to urge residents to take part in keeping the city clean.
“We appeal to our fellow Manileños: please help us keep our surroundings clean. Let’s all dispose of our trash properly,” said the Estero Rangers.
The local government reiterated that proper waste disposal, even in small ways, plays a big role in keeping the capital city clean, safe, and flood-free.
