Cainta mayor requests DPWH funding for drainage project to ease flooding
Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto
Cainta Mayor Keith "Kit" Nieto has requested funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for a drainage project aimed at easing flooding in the municipality.
In a recent interview with the PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps, Nieto said the project aims to reduce the volume of water passing through villages so that it can flow directly to the Cainta River.
“I am actually requesting the DPWH to fund nung malaking interceptor drainage project natin along Imelda Avenue that would create another outfall para ma-ease up ‘yung volume ng tubig na kailangan dumaan sa loob ng villages para lang makalabas sa Cainta River (To fund our large interceptor drainage project along Imelda Avenue, which would create another outfall to ease the volume of water that currently has to pass through the villages before it can flow out to the Cainta River),” he said.
In addition, Nieto said that a pumping station at Buli Creek is also being planned to further accelerate the flow of water during heavy rains and prevent more flooding.
The mayor also said that a flood summit will be held with lawmakers and local officials of different towns to discuss and identify other causes of flooding and determine concrete solutions that can be implemented not only in the affected areas but in the entire province.
“Alam naman namin eh [ilang sanhi at solusyon] (We already know some of the causes and solutions), it’s just that we need support from the higher-ups and the national government to implement these,” the mayor stated.
