Held at the China National Convention Center from Aug. 8 to 10, the awarding was in recognition of its strong presence and exceptional offerings.
The Philippine delegation was led by the Department of Tourism’s (PDOT) office in Beijing and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).
“The country remains dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism and fostering strong people-to-people exchanges through partnerships that protect its marine environment,” Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz said in a statement.
During the expo, the Philippines built a pavilion and brought a delegation composed of major airlines, diving suppliers, and resorts, including from emerging diving destinations such as Rombon, Ticao Island, and Camiguin.
FlorCruz emphasized the Philippines' commitment to marine biodiversity conservation and awareness as he invited Chinese divers and tour operators to work and partner with Philippine organizations “to develop sustainable and responsible dive products and experiences.”
According to the embassy, the country’s recent success at the Beijing Expo was “a testament to the country’s strategic focus on its tourism goals.”
“The Philippines’ impressive showing at the Beijing DRT Expo signals a promising future for its tourism sector,” the embassy said.
The statement underscored the Philippines’ unique position to benefit from the “rapidly expanding Chinese dive tourism market,” which is currently the fastest-growing in the world.
Reports indicate that this “high-value market” has an annual growth rate of 35 percent to 40 percent for newly certified divers, who are shifting to experience-based travel.
With its unmatched marine biodiversity and iconic dive sites, the Philippines was able to brand itself as "the heart of Asia's diving."
The DRT Expo is Asia's largest international dive expo, bringing together delegations, exhibitors, and diving professionals from across the globe.
It is held in various cities, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taiwan. Manila will host the next DRT Expo this September.
