Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima gave a heartfelt message to Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo on the occasion of the late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Jesse Robredo's 13th death anniversary.
"To Mayor Leni Robredo and the Robredo family, please know that Jesse’s light continues to guide us in public life. His legacy endures in every servant-leader who upholds integrity, humility, and courage in serving our people," De Lima said in a statement Monday, Aug. 18.
Mayor Robredo--the former vice president--is the widow of the late secretary Robredo.
"Thirteen years since his passing, we continue to draw strength from Secretary Jesse M. Robredo’s example of leadership that is "matino, mahusay, at maaasahan (decent, skilled, and reliable)," De Lima said.
The neophyte congresswoman went on to recall and hail secretary Robredo's humble "tsinelas leadership".
"Through his 'tsinelas leadership', Jesse showed us that power is borrowed from the people and must always be returned through fair decisions, transparent governance, and programs that uplift ordinary families."
According to De Lima, the former DILG boss' teachings still remain relevant to this day.
"His rules remain as sharp as ever: Bawal ang tamad. Bawal ang mayabang. Bawal ang abusado (Lazy people are not allowed. Arrogant people are not allowed. Abusive people are not allowed).
"Mabuhay ang pamana ni Jesse Robredo (Long live Jesse Robredo's legacy)," De Lima said.
Secretary Robredo served a total of six terms as mayor of Naga in Camarines Sur. He died in a plane crash off the shore of Masbate Island on Aug.18, 2012.
