Gasoline spikes by ₱0.60 per liter, diesel down ₱0.80/L on Tuesday
Motorists will need to brace themselves as gasoline prices are set to rise this week.
Starting Tuesday, Aug. 19, gasoline will increase by ₱0.60 per liter, marking the second price hike for the fuel in August.
Meanwhile, diesel will continue to ease, seeing a second-straight week of rollbacks with a ₱0.80 decrease per liter. Kerosene prices will also fall by ₱0.90 per liter.
Seaoil, Cleanfuel, and PetroGazz are among the oil companies that have announced these adjustments.
Analysts earlier attributed the see-saw price movements to increased oil production from major producers, a slowdown in diesel demand, and a seasonal rise in gasoline consumption during the summer.
ING Economics reported on Monday, Aug. 18, that the United States (US) may ease tariff pressures on Russia and countries purchasing Russian oil.
While US President Donald Trump did not succeed in securing a ceasefire from Russia against Ukraine, ING Economics said that the US would “hold off on secondary tariffs against China for its purchases of Russian oil, citing progress made over the weekend with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.”
Meanwhile, India, which purchases oil from Russia, may still face secondary tariffs from the US by Aug. 27, but may still see a little window for negotiation.
“Ultimately, the reduced risk of tougher sanctions and secondary tariffs should allow bearish oil fundamentals to become the dominant driver for oil prices moving forward,” ING Economics stated.
