Flow G shares personal routine via debut album '247'
Filipino hip-hop star Flow G gives listeners a glimpse of his everyday life through his debut solo album “247”, released on Friday, Aug. 15.
After seven years in the industry, Flow G finally mustered the courage to create his first full-length album.
“Siguro mas marami akong gustong i-push dati kaysa sa sarili ko pero this time dahil gusto kong piliin ‘yung sarili ko, nagawa ko siya. Lahat naman ‘yun ay nagawa na namin,” the rapper told reporters during a press conference.
(Maybe before, I wanted to push more things than myself. But this time, because I chose myself, I was able to do it. Back then, there were so many projects to focus on—and we already did all of them.)
(This time, I can make my own move because Flow G now carries a lot of weight—including the audience he gained. So if I keep giving them just singles, they might get annoyed with me.)
Fighting Every Day
With “247”, Flow G hopes to showcase his growth as an artist, creating an album that reflects the courage to keep fighting every day.
(Sometimes a song takes two years before I release it. I can create quickly, but finding the confidence to put it out there takes much longer.)
Everyday Life as Inspiration
Flow G also wants the songs in “247” to resonate with people’s daily routines, whether about love, work, or hobbies.
“Sinisigurado ko na lahat ‘yun, routine ng tao ‘yun, ito ‘yung title ng song na ‘to, routine ng tao, or kung anuman ‘yan, love song, or motivational song,” he said.
(I'm making sure every song ties back to people’s routines—whether it’s a love song or a motivational track.)
He added: “Basta ine-express ko lang do’n na lahat ‘to walang katapusan, kung gagawa ako ng motivational song o successful song tungkol sa ’yo parang non-stop naman ‘yung success eh, routine talaga ‘yan eh.”
(What I’m expressing is that these things are endless. If I make a motivational or success song, that feeling of success is non-stop—it’s part of life’s routine.)
Celebrating the album’s release on his birthday, Flow G said he also hopes for “big wins” not just for himself, but for everyone.
“Kung mapapansin nila, ilang beses kong ginamit ‘yung word na routine kasi ‘yun lang talaga ‘yung cycle eh 24/7 lang laki, ‘247’ is tungkol sa routine ng iba’t ibang topic na laman ng kanta,” he noted.
(If people notice, I used the word routine several times because that’s really the cycle—24/7. '247' is about the routines behind the many topics in my songs.)
“Sana manalo lahat eh, big wins para sa lahat kasi hangga’t nananalo ‘yung lahat parang madadalian kang i-celebrate ‘yung panalo mo kapag nananalo lahat,” he added.
(I hope everyone wins. Big wins for all—because it feels easier to celebrate your own victory when everyone else is winning too.)
A Song That Stuck
Among the tracks closest to his heart is “Ayos Ba?”, which he wrote two years ago and carefully adjusted to fit the final album.
(That’s one of the longest I’ve kept written—two years ago. I even adjusted other songs just so this track would complete the album.)
(I like that song so much because it feels like casually asking, ‘How are you? Are you okay?’ Maybe if no one else asks them, then it’s me doing it through the song.)
Proving His Worth
For Flow G, making “247” reaffirmed his worth as an artist who continues to fight and find inspiration every day despite his success.
(My inspiration truly comes from what I’ve experienced. Even if I’ve accomplished a lot, I want to show that every day feels like starting over—that’s why I never run out of inspiration.)
Flow G said creating the album was cathartic, allowing him to express his most personal thoughts through music.
Taking advice from mentors like Gloc-9, who encouraged him to first make an album for himself, Flow G is already looking forward to future collaborations.
(This is the first time I’ve expressed myself through a full album, so I took the risk of doing it alone first. That way, I can plan to collaborate with other artists for my second one.)
