Egypt marks National Day with renewed diplomatic spirit and cultural harmony
Ambassador Nader Nabil Zaki opens the evening with heartfelt welcome remarks, celebrating Egypt’s enduring ties with the Philippines
The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt celebrated its National Day with a vibrant and meaningful gathering that underscored the enduring friendship between Egypt and the Philippines, as well as the promise of deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
His Excellency Ambassador Nader Nabil Zaki of the Embassy of Egypt warmly welcomed distinguished guests, expressing his gratitude for their presence and emphasizing the significance of the evening. “I’m very pleased and content to have your presence today with us,” he shared. He also mentioned that the attendance of key figures from both nations enriched the celebration.
The highlight of the evening was the presence of His Excellency Dr. Osama al-Azharia, Minister of the Religious Endowment of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who embarked on a landmark visit to the Philippines. The Ambassador described the visit as a “turning point” in bilateral relations, with Dr. al-Azharia engaging in high-level meetings with the Philippine government—marking a rare and important moment in recent diplomatic history.
As Egypt and the Philippines approach 80 years of formal diplomatic ties in 2026, the Ambassador called for renewed efforts to expand cooperation across sectors, from trade and culture to education and religious dialogue. “We go way back together,” he said, referencing the establishment of relations on July 3, 1946, and expressing hope for “doing more business together and enhancing more and more the excellent relations we have.”
The Ambassador extended heartfelt thanks to Secretary Sabuddin N. Abdurahim, of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, for his support in facilitating the minister’s visit, and to Undersecretary Jesus Domingo of the Civilian Security and Consular Affairs, for his continued friendship and presence.
Adding a rich cultural dimension to the evening, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Kaye Tinga, the chair of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, performed a selection of Egyptian music, some pieces learned just the day before. The Ambassador praised their talent and adaptability. “It’s as if they’ve known Egypt and our Lord’s music all their life.” He lauded the Filipino spirit of creativity and surprise, calling the performance a testament to the artistic bridge between the two nations.
The celebration closed with a spirit of gratitude and optimism, as Ambassador Nader Nabil Zaki thanked all attendees and performers for making the evening memorable. “Thank you so much for your presence,” he concluded, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Philippines through diplomacy, culture, and shared values.
