To some, August 11 may have been just another Monday. For the newest UPLB CHE freshmen, shiftees, and transferees, however, it became a day of firsts. This day marked the beginning of a journey in the College of Human Ecology, where dreams, no matter how fragile, are given soil to root in.
The college warmly opened its doors through the CHE FST Convocation and an Organization Fair, both thoughtfully arranged to make each and every step feel closer to home. With the theme “Sang’CHE: Simula ng Makaekolohiyang Paglalakbay,” the event fostered connection, belonging, and a shared purpose in developing human-centered, self-reliant, and ecologically stable communities.
This event was made possible by the UPLB College of Human Ecology Freshmen Council (CHE FC), alongside the UPLB College of Human Ecology and the UPLB College of Human Ecology Student Council (CHE SC), who worked hand in hand to introduce the FST body to a community that treasures not only academic excellence but also ecological awareness and service that uplifts lives.
A total of 188 attendees came together for the convocation, their eyes glimmering with hope and anticipation for the coming years ahead. Held at the DL Umali Auditorium from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the program acquainted them with the college's collective mission and vision, and introduced them to the dedicated faculty and staff who’ll support them throughout their pursuits.
The celebration extended to the DCRC Hall at the Department of Human and Family Development Studies, where students gathered for the organization fair. CHE-based student organizations assembled booths and prepared interactive activities to offer a glimpse into the advocacies they fervently pursue and help FSTs discover communities whose passions and aspirations align with theirs.
Through these moments of celebration, the College of Human Ecology instills its core values in the hearts of FSTs—environmental stewardship and genuine care for both the people and the planet. With each story shared and connection formed, a seed of hope is sown, meant to blossom into driven future leaders who think with empathy, speak with consideration, and act with compassion.
As the day came to a close, the FSTs carry forward these fond memories and timeless wisdom. May this journey ahead be filled with friendships that endure, lessons that go beyond the classroom, and experiences that nurture both mind and heart.
Welcome home to CHE, your home away from home!
