QCPD nabs drug suspect, carnapper in separate operations
Police operatives arrested a drug suspect with a standing warrant of arrest and a carnapper in separate anti-criminality operations in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon Cityon Sunday, August 17.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director PCOL Randy Glenn Silvio said the operations were carried out by the District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU).
The first suspect, identified as alias “Fernando,” 42, a resident of Barangay Novaliches Proper, was flagged down around 10 p.m. on August 15 during an Oplan Galugad/Bulabog operation.
Police noted the suspect’s suspicious behavior, prompting them to verify his identity through the Electronic Warrant of Arrest (E-Warrant) system.
Results showed that he had a pending warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 79 in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, police also apprehended another suspect, alias “Edison,” 32, of Barangay Quirino-2, who was caught boarding a motorcycle without proof of ownership.
Verification of the engine and chassis numbers confirmed that the motorcycle, a Honda TMX, was the same unit reported stolen earlier that day at around 12:30 a.m.
Further checks through the Investigation Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) system revealed that Edison had a criminal record, including cases for Qualified Theft (March 2022), violation of R.A. 10883 or the Anti-Carnapping Act (September 2023 and May 2024), and violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act in relation to the Omnibus Election Code (October 2023).
Authorities confirmed that a case for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 will be filed against Edison before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
“We assure the public that the QCPD will remain steadfast in pursuing law offenders, whether through service of warrants or immediate response to crimes committed in our communities,” PCOL Silvio said.
