PDEG: Attempt to smuggle P47.6-M shabu foiled at NAIA; South African arrested

Anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) seized around P47.6 million worth of suspected shabu following the arrest of a foreigner believed to be a drug mule at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Police Brig. Gen. Edwin Quilates, director of PNP-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), said the 43-year old South African was intercepted at the Customs International Arrival Area, NAIA Terminal 3 on Aug. 16.
He said the operation was a result of coordination with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) in which the PNP DEG is one of the members.
Around 7,000 grams of shabu were seized from the foreigner who arrived in the country from Hongkong. The confiscated illegal drugs are worth P47.6 million.
“All confiscated evidence has been turned over to the PDEA Laboratory Service for qualitative and quantitative examination and proper disposition,” said Quilates.
