Pasig LGU to grant starter funds to 2,746 skills training graduates
A total of 2,746 graduates from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) programs and the Pasig Community Training Center will receive starter funds from the Pasig City Government, allowing them to start small businesses or seek employment using the skills and knowledge they gained.
The graduates were from the Pasig Community Training Center (Livelihood Programs and Barangay Computer Literacy Programs) and the Pasig City Institute of Science and Technology, both under the Pasig City Skills Development Office.
They completed their training from the second semester of 2024 to the first semester of 2025 and were recognized during the Certification Day on Thursday, August 14, at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The local government said that aside from their certificates, the graduates will also receive a “Starter Fund” amounting to P4,000.
Mayor Vico Sotto added that the graduates will also receive starter kits and assistance for their assessment fees.
During the event, Sotto emphasized that the primary goal of the local government in launching programs such as livelihood programs, computer literacy programs, and other technical-vocational courses is not merely to provide temporary benefits to Pasigueños.
He said these programs aim to equip residents with knowledge and skills that they can use to start their small businesses or secure employment opportunities.
Sotto cited the saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
The mayor vowed to continue improving these programs to provide more opportunities to all Pasigueños.
“We will continue to improve our programs. Ang target natin sa susunod ay kurso para sa driving, caregiving, at gaya ng paghikayat sa atin ni Cong Roman, NC-3 programs (Our next targets are courses in driving and caregiving, and, as encouraged by Congressman Roman, NC-3 programs),” Sotto said.
Also present at the event were Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski Jr., Rep. Roman Romulo, members of the 12th City Council, and Ms. Maria Gerty Pamaran, district director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority–PAMAMARISAN.
